Purpose of review: This essay reviews evidence for the current and potential effects of climate change on mental health. Recent findings: A growing body of research demonstrates not only that the extreme weather events associated with a changing climate can impair mental health, in particular leading to increases in depression and post-traumatic stress disorder, but also that more gradual changes in climatic conditions, such as rising temperatures and reduced air quality, are also harmful to mental health. In addition, there is increasing evidence that a significant proportion of people might be experiencing a harmful level of anxiety associated with their perception of climate change. Mental health impacts of climate change have the potential to affect a significant proportion of the population. More research is needed to document the extent of these impacts as well as the best options for mitigating and treating them. Abstract Purpose of review: This essay reviews evidence for the current and potential effects of climate change on mental health.

Persuasive Essay About Climate Change

A doomer is someone who believes in doomerism , a philosophy and mindset that believes global problems —including but not limited to ecological exhaustion , such as overpopulation , peak oil , climate change , and pollution —will inevitably cause the collapse of civilization , significant losses in human population , and potentially lead to eventual human extinction. Doomers tend to express feelings of despair and hopelessness about their own lives. The term "doomer" was reported in as being used in early internet peaknik communities, notably on internet forums where members discussed the theorized point in time when oil extraction would stop due to lack of resources, followed by societal collapse. Doomers of the mid-aughts subscribed to various ideas on how to face this impending collapse, including doomsday prepping , as well as more contemporary feelings of resignation and defeat.
