In the New World, Europeans encountered new indigenous plants for food, which were cultivated by the natives. Some of these include potatoes, beans, squash, and maize. These plants were brought back to Europe, which sparked population explosions. Along with these new crops and animals, Christopher Columbus brought diseases with him that the natives were not immune to.
